LET US DISCUSS WHAT IS GOING ON HERE.

It is quite likely those bags belong to the woman sitting there, yes. And yes, as a courteous person she should move her bags. It’s not clear if the train is full or not…if the train is partially empty, then having the bags on the seat is no big deal. If the train is full, she is being rude.

HOWEVER. Please note the differences in body postures here. The woman is occupying a significantly smaller amount of space than the man in this picture. You could clone her and sit the clone right next to her and she would still not be taking up as much space as that man is. This is the differential use of space: the default position of women is to take up less space; the default position of men is to take up as much physical space as possible.

So no, “ladies” do NOT do this, too. This blog isn’t about bags on the seats. This blog is about the way men consistently sit in such a way as to control space and make women uncomfortable.
